Meet Our Keynote Speakers
Keynote speakers for this year’s 4C Virtual Tutor Conference are
Kyra Kovacs and Jonathan Kay
of the College of Western Idaho Tutoring Services.

Kyra Kovacs
(she/her)
Mentor Master Tutor
CRLA Level II Advanced Tutor
Kyra is a Mentor Tutor Specialist at the College of Western Idaho, where she focuses on helping students develop various study skills. She’ll be transferring to Boise State University in the summer, where she will study Linguistics. She aims to eventually teach English as a Second Language and will minor in Japanese with the hope of teaching that as well. She is currently working on certification for CRLA Tutor Level 3 and Peer Mentor Level 1.

In all of her tutoring sessions, Kyra tries to make a point to highlight what students are already doing well, helping them recognize their own capabilities so they can move forward with confidence. Kyra’s approach to student support is built on honesty with kindness; she believes in digging deep and asking a lot of questions to help students find their own answers, ensuring they leave sessions with the specific skills they need to reach their goals.

Jonathan Kay
(he/him)
STEM Master Tutor
CRLA Level II Advanced Tutor

Jonathan is a STEM Tutor at the College of Western Idaho specializing in chemistry, math, and astronomy; he has been a tutor for four years. He graduated summa cum laude from CWI in 2023 with an associate degree in Liberal Arts. Even though he isn’t currently taking classes, Jonathan considers himself a lifelong student and carries that love of learning into his tutoring. He feels he has truly found his calling with tutoring and plans to continue with it as long as he is able. Jonathan is currently working to attain his CRLA Tutor Level 3 and Peer Mentor Level 1 certifications.

As a non-traditional student, Jonathan is well-suited to a community college environment full of diverse experiences. He prides himself on building a solid rapport with his students, making them feel comfortable expressing their needs and open to owning their mistakes. Students seek him out not only for help with course material, but because he provides a welcoming environment that brings joy to learning.
